Message Notes for Week 7

Messiah=Anointed One=Savior=Jesus=God

Over 300 prophesies of the Messiah in the Old Testament.  Many pointed to a King who would save them.  Others pointed to a servant who would suffer.

King from Judah—Micah 5:2   Suffering Servant:  Isaiah 53:5 (reference handout for more references).

The Jewish people at the time of Jesus could not piece together a suffering King who would die and be resurrected—

Psalm 16:8-10 NASB

8 I have set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
9 Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will dwell securely.
10 For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol;
You will not allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.

Difficult to stay in tune with God in the 1st century

  1. Didn’t have convenient Bibles
  2. Had not had a prophet in 400 years
  3. Had been under foreign control for a long time
  4. Man-made religion crept in

Jesus Ministry Prophesized to be Rejected

Psalm 22:6-8, 16; Psalm 41:9; Zechariah 13:7; Isaiah 50:6, 53:7,9

How many different times was Jesus seen by other’s that are recorded in the gospels?  Are there any other times in scriptures after His resurrection?

  1. Test the link below with the group to see if you can access the study guides.  We may use this link for future studies also.

  2. Using the chart, who got to the tomb first?  Who saw Jesus first?  Who are other’s who saw Jesus?

  3. Can you still be a Christian and not believe that Jesus was raised from the dead?  Why or why not.

  4. What are some of the evidence given in scripture for Jesus’ resurrection?

  5. Why did Jesus have to die such a violent death?  Is there any other proof in scripture of His Resurrection.  Is there any proof outside of scripture that He was not resurrected?

  6. What does the Resurrection mean to you personally?  If a non-Christian asked you why is Easter so important to you, how would you answer them?

  7. With the group see if you can piece together the events that happened on the Sunday of the Resurrection.

  8. If other people died and were brought back to life in the Bible what is the significance of Jesus coming back from death?

  9. Do you have family members or friends that do not know Jesus?  Will you resolve to pick one of them this week to pray that God would give you an open door to share with them about Jesus?
