Message Notes

1. People who live with a sense of urgency…

Have a Biblical Mindset Regarding Sin and God’s Will.

1 Peter 4:1-2

1 Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because the one who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

2 so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human lusts, but for the will of God.

Dying to Sin-

  • How have YOU died to sin?

Romans 6:23

23 or the wages of sin is death,

Living with a sense of urgency means…

2. You Avoid Living a Destructive Lifestyle

1 Peter 4:3-4

For the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of indecent behavior, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties, and wanton idolatries. 4 In all this, they are surprised that you do not run with them in the same excesses of debauchery, and they slander you;

Living with a sense of urgency means you are fully aware that

3. One Day There Will be an Accounting

1 Peter 4:5-7
5 but they will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

6 For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as people, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God.
7 The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.

Living with urgency also means…

4. We Keep Love Fervent.

 1 Peter 4:8-9
8 Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaint

Fervent-

Having or displaying a passionate intensity

Ektenes (Gk) ek-ten-ace

Without ceasing

Living with a sense of urgency means…

5. We do Our Duty

1 Peter 4:10-11
10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the multifaceted grace of God.

11 Whoever speaks is to do so as one who is speaking actual words of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

  1. What is the context of Peter’s 1st letter (who, what, where, when, why)?

  2. What does it mean to live with a sense of urgency? What does it mean in a Christian sense to live with a sense of urgency?

  3. Read 1 Peter 4:1-2, what does it mean to “arm yourselves also with the same purpose” in verse 1? Is everyone tempted with sin? Is temptation a sin?

  4. Read Romans 6:23, what do you think is meant by this verse? Is it possible for us to live a sin free life? What should we do when we sin?

  5. Read 1 Peter 4:3-4, can you still be a Christian and continually partake of the sins listed here? Why or why not?

  6. Using a bible app or concordance, what is the word used for “slander” (or heap abuse) in verse 4? What word or phrase is used in some other Bible translations?

  7. Read 1 Peter 4:5-7, what does it mean in verse 5 “they will give an account to Him”? Who will have to give an account? Is anyone excluded?

  8. Read 1 Peter 4:8-11, how does “love cover(s) a multitude of sins”? If you had to summarize these verses in a short phrase, what would it be?

  9. Please continue to pray for God’s guidance in the church. Also, is there someone God has been putting on you heart to have more urgency to share with about Jesus?
