Message Notes

DNA- Deoxyribonucleic Acid

A self-replicating material that is present in nearly all living organisms
as the main constituent of chromosomes. It is the carrier of genetic information.
The fundamental and distinctive characteristics or qualities of someone or something,
especially when regarded as unchangeable.

Genesis 2:7

Then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living person.

Luke 6:30

Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.

Our Mission:

We exist to build Bridges for People to Come to Jesus and grow in His Grace.

Accomplishing Our Mission

1. Share Jesus’ Story/Gospel

Matthew 9:37-38

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Matthew 22:37

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

2. Serving Others

 Matthew 20:28

“…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

3. Growth

Proverbs 27:17

As iron sharpens iron,

so one person sharpens another.

4. Fellowship

1 John 3:18

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

  1. What is DNA?  What would you say the DNA of TBCSS is?

  2. Read Genesis 2:7, what is the significance that God “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life”?  Is there any significance for us thousands of years later?  Why or why not?

  3. What are some ways the modern church differs from the church during the first century?  What are some of the ways that we are the same?

  4. Read Acts 4:32-35, do these verses apply to the modern church?  Why or why not?  What is meant by “common property” in verse 32?  Using a bible app, what is the Greek word for “needy” in verse 34?  How many times is that word used in the Bible?

  5. Our Mission statement reads: “We exist to build Bridges for People to Come to Jesus and grow in His Grace”.  Do you agree that TBCSS consistently pursues this mission?  What are some things you think we could do better?  What are some things you think we do very well?

  6. Read Matthew 9:37-38, what is “the harvest” that is mentioned in these verses?  Who are “the workers”?  Why do you think there is an imbalance in the numbers of both groups?

  7. What is the most important thing a church can do?

  8. Read Matthew 20:24-28, what is the context of these verses?  What are ways we serve God?  What are some ways we serve people?

  9. If someone is new to the church and has ideas for the church how would they know who to communicate those ideas to?

  10. Do you typically spend time with people in the church outside of Sunday service?  Why do you think that is?

  11. Please pray for the various teams tasked with connecting with God’s plan for the future of the church.  Your opinion is highly valued.  If you would like to give your input regarding the church, the leadership transition, or just have general questions regarding anything else, please contact Darin or any of the board members.
