TWO PEOPLE ARE INTRODUCED IN THIS CHAPTER. – THE TWO BEASTS

THE FIRST BEAST – THE ANTICHRIST

  • WHERE DID HE COME FROM?

And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, with ten diadems on its horns and blasphemous names on its heads. And the beast that I saw was like a leopard; its feet were like a bear’s; its mouth was like a lion’s mouth. Revelation 13:1-2 ESV

  • WHO IS HE?

The little horn is the Antichrist

  • THE MORTAL WOUND.

One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound but its mortal wound was healed and the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast.  Revelation 13:3 ESV

  • WHAT DOES HE DO?

And they worshipped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshipped the beast saying, “Who can fight against it?” And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months. Revelation 13:4-5 ESV

THE SECOND BEAST – THE FALSE PROPHET

For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.  Matthew 24:24 ESV

  • WHERE DID HE COME FROM? WHO IS HE?

Then I saw another beast rising out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb, and it spoke like a dragon. It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose mortal wounds are healed. Revelation 13:11-12 ESV

  • WHAT DOE HE DO?

And by the signs that it allowed to work in the presence of the beast it deceives those who dwell on the earth, telling them to make an image of the beast that was wounded by the sword and yet lived. And it allowed to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might even speak and might cause those who would not worship the image of the beast to be slain.  Revelation 13:14-15 ESV

 

FINAL ACT – THE MARK OF THE BEAST

Also, it causes all, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it the of a man, and his number is 666. Revelation 13:16-18 ESV

 

BOTTOM LINE:

Satan raises two beasts, The Antichrist and the False Prophet to lead the people astray.

 

  1. As a group, recount the book of Revelation so far without using your notes:

  1. Are there any areas of this book that you are struggling trying to understand? If you are struggling odds are others are too and it may help others help to understand better if you highlight some difficult things to understand.

  2. Read Revelation 13:1-2, who do you think is represented by this beast? What do you think the 10 horns represent? What might the 7 horns represent?

  3. Read Revelation 13:3-10, what are some possible interpretations of these verses? How would you explain to non-believers about varying interpretations of scripture?  From reading these verses how could you summarize in your own words this “beast”?

  4. What is the difference between the “tribulation” and the “great tribulation”?

  5. Read Matthew 24:24, How would you define a false prophet? How does the bible define a false prophet?  Do you think there are false prophets today? Why are false prophets dangerous?

  6. Read Revelation 13:11-18, what are some possibilities that John mentioned of who this second beast is? What do you think it means that the beast “had two horns like a lamb”?  What do you think it means he will speak like a dragon?  What seems to be the mission of this second beast?

  7. Explain the mark that the beast will cause to be taken. Do you think this mark is voluntary or forced?  Once people have this mark is there any hope of salvation?  Why or why not?

Do you have a friend, coworker or family member who does not know Jesus?   If they were to die in their sin today how would that make you feel?   Is there someone God has been prompting you to reach out to and it just never seems to be the right time, the right place, or your nerves get in the way of reaching out?  Would you consider reaching out this week as uncomfortable as it may be?  God may be using you this week to change someone’s eternity.
