Revelation 9:13-21; Chapter 10

Message Notes
John 12:47-50
47 “If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day. 49 For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. 50 I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.”
Revelation 9:13-14
13 The sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the four horns of the golden altar that is before God. 14 It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.”
Horns of the Golden Alter- Exodus 30
This is a place of prayer, also where the angel offered prayers at the beginning of the trumpet judgements.
The Euphrates-
This is one of the 4 rivers that flowed through the Garden of Eden. This place is very important all throughout the Bible. And there are good reasons why these 4 demons have been bound here since the fall of man.
- The sin of man began here
- the first murder was here
- The first war was fought here
- This is probably where the flood began
- It was around this area where the tower of Babel was built
Revelation 9:15
15 And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind.
Revelation 9:16-17
16 The number of the mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand. I heard their number. 17 The horses and riders I saw in my vision looked like this: Their breastplates were fiery red, dark blue, and yellow as sulfur. The heads of the horses resembled the heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire, smoke, and sulfur.
Why Horses?
Horse have been and are a symbol of war. Except these horses are different than your average horse.
Characteristics of The Horses of the 200,000,000 Demon Horse Army
Head like a lion, (probably teeth too)
Breastplate that is either dark blue, fiery red, or sulfur yellow
Tails are like snakes
Revelation 9:18
18 A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke and sulfur that came out of their mouths.
Brimstone-
Yellowish, sulfuric rock. When ignited, this stuff melts creating really hot steam and gasses that will cause suffocating.
God used fire and brimstone to destroy both Sodom and Gomorrah
Revelation 9:19
19 The power of the horses was in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails were like snakes, having heads with which they inflict injury.
Revelation 9:20-21
20 The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood—idols that cannot see or hear or walk. 21 Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality, or their thefts.
Chapter 10
The Second Interlude
The Seven Seals-
Judgement- Revelation 6:1-17
Interlude 1 Revelation 7
More Judgement- Revelation 8-9
Interlude 2 Revelation 10
God includes these interludes to let our brains and emotions calm and cool down and to process all the information.
Revelation 10:1-7
Another angel touches down on earth with a leg in the sea, and a leg on the land. This is a visual reminder that God is still vary much in charge but He’s allowing the Devil and his fallen angels to kill people and destroy the planet even more.
Revelation 10:8-11
8 Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me once more: “Go, take the scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.”
9 So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, “Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but ‘in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.’” 10 I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour. 11 Then I was told, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings.”
Ezekiel 3 tells us of another time someone ate God’s Word, it was the prophet Ezekiel. Ezekiel’s mission was limited to Israel, whereas John’s mission is a global mission.
- Much of God’s Word is sweet to those who believe in Jesus
2 Corinthians 2:15-16
15 For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task?
- Sometimes God’s plans are hard for people to swallow
- We can trust all of God’s ways, the sweet and the sour.
Job 2:10
“… Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?…”
In the End, Jesus Wins and So Do We!
- Without using your notes, recap the events so far in the book of Revelation.
- Chapter 1:
- Chapter 2&3:
- Chapter 4-5:
- Chapter 6-10:
- Why is God judging mankind? Can judgment be avoided? If so how?
- Read John 12:47-50, what does Jesus mean when Jesus says He, “…did not come to judge the world…”?
- Read Revelation 9:13-21, what is meant by a golden alter with horns?
- What is the significance of the Euphrates River in scripture? Does anyone know the exact day for the end times?
- Darin referenced that chapter 10 is an interlude. What is an interlude? Why do you think there are interludes like this in Revelation?
- Read Revelation 10:1-7, who do you think is being described in these verses? What is the “mystery of God” in verse 7?
- Read Revelation 10:8-11, what is the scroll that is being referenced? What does it mean to take the scroll and eat it?
- What is our roll before Jesus comes back again? How active would you say you’ve been in that roll?
- Please pray for our country. It seems that as a country we have moved farther away from God, but we serve a God of miracles. Will you set apart a minute or two this week to devote to praying for our country?
