2 Samuel 5:17-25

WK 14 – “Waiting for the Lord to Answer”

August 17, 2025

Justin Scarberry

Context:

The ________________ are an ancient enemy of the Israelites.  They possibly trace their roots back to _______________.  ____________ is a famous person from this area who David defeated in one on one combat.  The enemy is camped out in the backyard of the Israelites.

Several times in scripture we read that “David __________ of the Lord”.  It’s very consistent in scripture.

Sometimes God just wants us to be still and _________for Him!

Exodus: 14:14 NIV

14 The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Mark 4:39 ESV

39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Psalm 46:10 ESV

10Be still, and know that I am God.

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth!”

Sometimes God’s answer to our prayer is _______.

Faith!

Hebrews 11:1 NIV

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Hebrews 11:6 NIV

6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Romans 10:17 ESV

17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

We have an army of ____________ who will fight for us:

2 Kings 6:16

16 He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

________inside you wins every battle!

1 John 4:4 NKJV

4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

8. __Forgive Others______

Forgiveness?

Matthew 18:21-22 ESV

21 Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.

Luke 17:3-4 ESV

3 Pay attention to yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, 4 and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”

Two schools of thought on forgiveness:

1. Forgive only when the other person ________________.

2. Forgive even when the other person doesn’t _____________.

Luke 23:24 ESV

34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.
