2 Samuel 7:1-17 ESV

WK 15 – “Are You Headed in God’s Direction?”

August 31, 2025

Justin Scarberry

Context:

David went from being a ____________ to being the _______ of all Israel.

The first king of Israel was ____________.

Isaiah 48:22 ESV

22 “There is no peace,” says the Lord, “for the wicked.”

Romans 8:31 ESV

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, ______________________.

At this time in David’s life and the life of Israel they have a period of _________ from their enemies.  They brought the ________ of the covenant back and now David want’s to build a _________ for the Lord.

Mark 2:23-28 shows why Christians are not obligated to keep the ___________.

In it Jesus confirms:

1. ______________________

2. ______________________

3. ______________________

We often want people to be religious just like us:

Hosea 6:6 NKJV

For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings

Psalm 51:16-17 ESV

16 For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

Romans 14:5 ESV

5 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.

Our goal as Christians is to ________________________.

Some people in the world are headed in

the wrong ____________ (and don’t know it).

Romans 10:3-4 ESV

For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

We have to be careful that we keep what is most important (Jesus)

at the forefront of everything we do!

Revelation 2:4-5 NKJV

4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.

When they were in __________ the Israelites went from freedom to ___________ in the same year!

  2. Where does peace come from? Can we have true peace apart from God? Why or why not.

  3. Read 2 Samuel 7:1-4, what are some of the events that the Israelites have had to endure since Abraham? Can we get advice from Godly people that doesn’t match up with God’s will for our life?

  4. What is the Sabbath? Are Christians required to keep it?  Read Mark 2:23-27, what is meant by Jesus’ statement, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.”?

  5. If someone would ask you to prove from scripture that Jesus is God, how would you go about doing that?

  6. Read Hosea 6:6, what is mercy? How does it differ from justice? How does it differ from grace?

  7. What would you consider the most important thing that we do in the church? When opinions differ on things that are less important how should we handle that situation?

  8. Read 2 Samuel 7:5-11, does God often tell us “no”? What are some of the reasons God tells us no?  What house will the Lord make David in verse 11?
