Who We Are

Wk 1 Why We Exist (Our Mission)

Jan 2 2022

Various Scriptures

Our Mission:

We exist to build Bridges for People to Come to Jesus and grow in His Grace.

(SLD) Matthew 28:19

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

1 Corinthians 1:10

I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.

Accomplishing our Mission

  1. Share Jesus’ Story/Gospel

Matthew 9:37-38

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Matthew 22:37

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

Luke 12:11

“When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say,

  1. Serving Others

Matthew 20:24-28

When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers. Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

  1. Growth

Proverbs 27:17

As iron sharpens iron,

so one person sharpens another.

  1. ***Fellowship***

1 John 3:18

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

Our Real Mission:

We exist to build Bridges for People to Come to Jesus and grow in His Grace.

  1. How important is/was a mission statement and list of beliefs and core values in choosing a church?
  2. Read Matthew 28:19, do you feel the Church in general (Jesus’ Church) has been accomplishing this directive? Do you feel the Bridge Church has been accomplishing this directive?
  3. Read 1 Corinthians 1:10, why do you think Paul says that the church should have no divisions? Is it possible to be/remain perfectly unified?  What are some things that have caused churches to split in history?
  4. Why do you think the number of people who go to church is declining?
  5. Read Matthew 20:24-28, why do you think that many (if not most) prefer not to serve in the church?
  6. Why is fellowship important in the growth of a Christian?
