  1. What are some of the difficulties the Jewish people may have had in understanding the promised Messiah from scripture?

  2. What is a prophecy? What are some of the prophecies in the Old Testament that point to Jesus?  What does it mean if there is a “dual fulfillment” of a prophecy in scripture?

  3. Read Isaiah 52:13-15, why does the Messiah have to suffer?

  4. What are some of the context tools we can use when trying to understand scripture?

  5. How are our sins forgiven? How were sins forgiven in the Old Testament?  Is there any difference between the two time periods in regard to forgiveness of sins?

  6. Read Isaiah 53:1-6, verse 5 says “by His stripes we are healed.” What is meant by that verse?  What are some characteristics of sheep that the Bible often compares us to?  What does the word “iniquity” mean in verse 6?

  7. How do we get to heaven? Is it possible to believe in the wrong Jesus? Why or why not?

  8. Read Isaiah 53:7-13, what do you think is meant in verse 10 when it says “it pleased the LORD to bruise Him”?

  9. What are the “Dead Sea Scrolls”? Would proof of the scriptures that pre-date Jesus life help change peoples opinions of Jesus?  Why or why not?
