WK 11 – “Lesson Not Learned”

Context:

_________ who will be the second king of Israel refuses to kill/harm ________ the first king of Israel. He has been on the run, hiding in caves and now will flee to enemy territory. The Bible tells us that __________ is a man after God’s own heart.

Fear is not from God:

2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

David tried to stay on the fringe of where he should have been similar to _______________ in the New Testament after Jesus was arrested.

Mark 14:54 KJV

54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.

When we try to have one foot in the __________ and the other following _____ it’s a recipe for disaster!

Apostasy:  backsliding, turning away, __________________________

Sometimes God will come after us when we backslide like the case of ___________ in the old testament.  Also, he will often let us go away until we see our need for Him like the parable of the  ________________ son.

Greek “asōtōs”= ______________________  and means riotous or loose living, for sensual pleasure, wildly extravagant and without constraint.

Am I saved?

You cannot lose your salvation!  __________ says we are in his hand and _________ also has us in His hand.  And we have the ______  _________  indwelling every believer.

How are we saved?

Romans 10:9 NKJV

9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

  1. Who are the first 3 kings of Israel anointed by God and what are some traits of each of them?

  2. Read 1 Samuel 27:1-4, do we ever have times we worry so much that it takes over our thoughts where we make unwise decisions?   Who are the Philistines?  Why would David be going to their land?

  3. Do our sins ever just affect ourselves? Why or why not?

  4. What are some problems we can run into when we have a “me, me, me” focus in our lives?

  5. When we have fear, is that from God? Why or why not?

  6. Read 2 Timothy 1:7, what do you think is meant by a “sound mind”? How do some other translations translate the original Greek word?

  7. Read 1 Samuel 27:5-7, can we do the things that world says is good to do and also do the things that God says is good to do?

  8. What does apostasy mean? Is that word used in the Bible?  How would you look up a purely Biblical definition?

  9. If someone asked you to summarize the parable of the Prodigal Son, how would you explain it?

  10. Can you lose your salvation? Why or why not?  Please use scripture to support you answer.

  11. Please pray for the various ministries of the church and that God would raise up workers to help support the effort.
