Context:

Saul was told he would be removed as king of Israel but he is still holding on.

David has been annointed by the prophet Samuel to be the next king.

Saul will resort to evil to stay in power even trying to kill/have David killed.

Romans 13:1-2 ESV

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.

  5. Read Romans 13:1-2, does God even pick bad authorities? Why do you think He would allow folks who may be evil to rule?

  6. Read 1 Peter 2:13-15, what does it mean to “be subject” in verse 13?

  7. Read 1 Samuel 19:4-6, is it easy to take the side of someone outside of your family when your family may be in the wrong about an issue? When we disagree with the government what are some things we can do to show our disagreement?  Is this the way we usually show our grievances?

  8. Read Proverbs 18:8, are Christians to be involved in gossip? What are some ways we can shut it down?

  9. Read 1 Samuel 19:7-11, do evil spirits have access to us today? Can evil spirits take control of our lives?  Why or why not?

  10. What does it mean to repent?

  11. Please pray for God’s direction for the church as we move forward together in His love.
