WK 14– “Amen, Amen!”

SEEKING TO KILL John 5:18

  • _________________ is saying or doing something that is demeaning to God.
  • The Jewish leaders wanted to kill Him for making Himself ___________ to God.
  • They also sought to kill Him for breaking the Sabbath by _____________ a man.

LEADING WITH AMEN, AMEN John 5:19

  • “Truly, truly” = “_________, _________
  • Amen means “_____ _____ _____” and “Let it be ________ Lord”
  • He leads with “Amen, Amen”, letting them know a ________ from God is coming.

THOUGHTS/QUESTIONS

  • If, one day, your kids turn into you, is that a good thing? Would they be turning into a servant of the Lord, doing His Will?
  • Is God telling you to just “be still”? Are you trying to do something for God, but perhaps God is just telling you to “wait”?
  • It takes a long time to adjust to anything new. Are you holding on to things that you don’t need anymore?
  • Are you set in your “old” ways and can’t hear from God because your religion has blocked Him out?

  1. Who are the Pharisees in scripture? Who are the Sadducees?  How do they differ?

  2. What is blasphemy? What are some ways we can commit blasphemy?

  3. What is the Sabbath? Are Christians obligated to keep the Sabbath?  Why or why not?

  4. What is the context of John 5 so far?

  5. Read John 5:19-25, why do you think Jesus uses the phrase, “Truly, truly” several times in scripture?

  6. If we are not hearing from God, what are some things that we could/should do?

  7. What are some ways we can worship God?

  8. What is meant in verse 22 that “but He has given all judgment to the Son”? If someone said to you, “I believe in God, but I do not believe in Jesus”, how would you answer that statement?

  9. If someone asked you, “How can I be saved from going to hell?”, how would you answer them?

  10. Read John 5:26-32, what is the judgment that is being referred to here? What is meant in verse 30 when Jesus says, “I can do nothing on My own.”?

  11. If you had to look in your Bible to see where it says the Messiah would be God, how would you do that?

  12. Please continue to pray for all the fathers out there. That they would seek God first and be an example to those who look up to them as fathers.
