God Establishes the Governments and Puts the Rulers in Place.
Titus 3:1 ESV
Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient and be ready for every good work,
Jesus Will Become the Ruler Over the World
Isaiah 9:6 ESV
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Question: Is it ever right to stand against the authorities and what they tell you to do?
Acts 4:18-20 ESV
So, they called them and charged then not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot be speak of what we have seen and heard.
We are continuing to look at David. David has just defeated Goliath,
but Saul has become jealous of him and wants to kill him.
David Asks Jonathan Why
1Samuel 20:1-3 ESV
Then David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and he came and said [a]to Jonathan, “What have I done? What is my guilt? And what is my sin before your father, that he is seeking my life?”
They Test Saul to See if He Still Wants to Kill David
1 Samuel 20:4-7 ESV
4 Then Jonathan said to David, “Whatever [e]you say, I will do for you.” 5 So David said to Jonathan, “Behold, tomorrow is the new moon, and I am obligated to sit down to eat with the king. But let me go so that I may hide myself in the field until the third evening. 6 If your father misses me at all, then say, ‘David earnestly requested leave of me to run to Bethlehem, his city, because it is the yearly sacrifice there for the whole family.’ 7 If he [f]says, ‘That is good,’ your servant will be safe; but if he is very angry, be aware that he has decided on evil.
David and Jonathon again pledge to help each other.
Jonathan to help keep David safe from Saul.
David to keep Jonathan’s family safe from harm.
This is the last time they meet. David then flees and Jonathon Goes back to the city.
The Bottom Line:
Do the Right Thing Even When It Costs You.
