Matthew 5:11
11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.

Matthew 5:43
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’

Leviticus 19:18
18 “‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself.  I am the Lord.

Due to years of captivity and occupation the Jews did not like non-Jews. They often referred Non-Jews as _____________. Not the cute fluffy kind.

Matthew 5:44
44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

Instead of responding and/or defending yourself because of a negative comment, email or post, pray for the person that said it.

2 Timothy 2:23-26 (New King James Version)
23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

“People who do not know Jesus are blind”

What do we do when we run into what could be a tense situation?

Paul’s ABC’s of how to handle tough situations

  • Avoid it

2 Timothy 2:23
23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife.

Avoid the argument if possible. Remember, you’re trying to win a soul, not an argument.

  • Be Gentle

2 Timothy 2:24
24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient,

When pointing out someone is wrong, we need to maintain our composure, not explode.

  • Correct in Humility

2 Timothy 2:25
25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,

Just because you know you’re right doesn’t mean you have to act like it.

Matthew 5:45
45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

Does it bother you that people who do not believe in Jesus seem to be blessed as much if not more than those who believe? Why, or why not?

Matthew 5:46-47
46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?

Jesus wants YOU to be different

Matthew 5:48
48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

How can we who are imperfect be perfect?

Jesus loves everybody always, even the difficult people.

And if Jesus is the Lord of your life, shouldn’t you too.
