Justin Scarberry

.

We all come to follow Jesus through the Word of God!

Psalm 19:7 NKJV

7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

.

Baptism

Two opinions:

Baptism is _____________ for salvation.

Baptism is not ______________ for salvation.

.

Paul the Apostle seems to separate the two:

1 Corinthians 1:17 NIV

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

Ephesians 2:8-10NIV

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

.

What is Baptism?

A public declaration of the decision you’ve made to _________ Jesus.  It symbolizes the new you.  You went into the water ________ as a sinner and come back out of the water a new ____________.  It announces to the world the decision you’ve made to _________ Jesus.   It also shows our ___________ to Jesus who was also baptized.

.

If you are a Christian, you should be baptized!

Baptism of ____________ is not in the Bible.

We get to make a choice of whether or not we will get baptized.

.

Gospel:   ____   ________   ____________.

.

How often do we check in on what God is doing and how we can be of service to Him?

Romans 12:1 NASB

Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

.

Prayer is ____________ to and ____________ to God.

.

We cannot say I am a Christian if nothing in our life changes!

Matthew 15:8 NIV

8“‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

.

Ground zero for our __________ outreach is always our own family!

We should not be surprised though if our message is rejected.  Why?  Jesus was rejected to!

Matthew 15:57-58 NKJV

57 So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.” 58 Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

.

Even Jesus’ family didn’t believe Him!

Mark 3:21 ESV

And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.”

Not everyone you reach out to will __________ positively when you tell them about Jesus.

.

Reserve some time each day to set aside for God.

Set a reminder on your phone!

Consider who God is putting on your heart to invite in for Easter.

Passages for next week if you would like to look ahead:

John 2:1-12

.

  1. Read John 1:35-40, what does “the lamb of God” mean in verse 36? The disciples heard directly from Jesus to follow Him. What are some of the ways people come to follow Jesus today?

  2. Read Psalm 19:7, what does it mean that the “law of the Lord is perfect”? What is a soul?  How is it “converted”?

  3. What are some things you recall about John the Baptist? What does Jesus think about John the Baptist?

  4. What was John the Baptist’ mission?

  5. There are several verses in the Bible that discuss baptism. What is baptism? Is baptism required for salvation?  Why or why not?  Please look into several of the verses that discuss salvation and baptism for the discussion.  If someone has a different opinion on baptism than you do, what is the proper way to address the difference of opinion?

  6. What is the gospel message? If someone who had no familiarity with the church or the Bible asked you to explain to them the gospel message, how would you answer them?

  7. What is prayer? Can anyone pray to God?  Does God always hear every prayer?  Does God answer every prayer?  What are some of the ways God answer’s prayers?

  8. Read John 1:41-51, what is our primary mission field? Can you be a Christian and never do anything that Jesus tells you to do?  Why or why not?  How do we know what God wants us to do?

  9. How consistent is your time with God? Consider setting a reminder on your phone at a time when you are usually free during the day to just spend time with God, either in worship or in prayer or digging into His Word.  Also, who is God putting on your heart to invite to church for Easter?
