What’s My Mission?

“… and there He was spending time with them and baptizing”

John 3:22-24 NASB

Jesus starts out in the __________ field. He goes out on a recruiting mission!

How many Apostles will He recruit to follow Him and learn from Him? ____

___________ means delegate, messenger, one sent forth with orders.

While not an Apostle, John the Baptist is constantly pointing people to Jesus, the object of all missionaries.

“Then a matter of dispute developed…” John 3:25-26 NASB

We should not be in _____________ with other churches! Jesus has just ONE church!

Matthew 9:37

37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.”

Cheer on all the churches going out into the world telling people about Jesus!

Where is our immediate mission field? ___________ ____________

Who is the groom? _______________

The friend is the “Best Man” today. He’s in a place of honor, but never the focus!

As Christians, we should ___________ be the focus!

Romans 14:7-8 NLT

For we don’t live for ourselves or die for ourselves. If we live, it’s to honor the Lord. And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

John the Baptist is setting their focus straight! We should always be focused on Jesus!

Whatever plan we want to implement, we should always ask, “How does this help us focus on Jesus?”

Did everyone sign up right away to join Him? ________

John is prophesying future events! Jesus will be ______________ by almost everyone.

“For He whom God sent speaks the words of God…”

John 3:33-34 NASB

  1. What is meant by “The Good News” when we talk about what the word gospel means? What is the Greek word for gospel?

  2. What is an apostle? Are there apostles today?  Why or why not?

  3. Read John 3:22-26, which “John” is being referred to in these verses? What was John’s baptism for?  Is it any different than the baptisms we do today?  What kind of dispute was developing (Verse 25-26)?  What kind of disputes develop in the church today?

  4. There is some debate in Christianity of whether or not baptism is required for salvation. Would you be able to maintain fellowship with someone who had an alternative viewpoint on baptism than you might have?  What are some of the ways we can share biblical views with others?

  5. Is our church in a competition with any other church? Do we tend to judge churches or cheer them on for their mission?

  6. What is our immediate mission field? What are some ways you think we could be more effective to reach those in our immediate mission field?

  7. Read John 3:27-32, what does the word “Christ” mean? Is there anything we get in life that is not from God?

  8. What are some things in your time at various churches that make you uncomfortable?

  9. What are ways we can support a mission plan?

  10. Who is the bride in verse 29? Who is the groom?  Who is the friend of the groom?

  11. What do you think is meant by verse 30?

  12. What are some ways we can be “haughty” in church?

  13. What is a testimony (verse 32)? What is your own personal testimony of how you came to faith in Jesus if you are willing to share with the group?
