“What’s My Mission?” Part 3

The Woman at the Well (recap of last week)

In Samaria: Jesus is on a mission to ___________ and ____________ the lost!

Who are missionaries? Every single _______________ of Jesus!

We are still here on earth to spread the ____________ ___________ to the lost!

The message: What Jesus did on the cross; He __________ for our sins!

He told this woman about the “living water” that only He can give her.

“Living water”- a ________ _____________ filled life of a believer of Jesus.

Jesus said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband.”- John 4:16-18

The Bible gives us a clear definition of marriage:

Genesis 2:24 NASB

“… a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife…”

Matthew 19:4-6 NIV

“… So they are no longer two, but one flesh.”

Hebrews 13:4 NASB

Marriage is to be held in honor among all…”

The Bible is also clear about divorce:

Matthew 19:9 NIV

I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.

Malachi 2:16 NASB

16 “For I hate divorce,” says the Lord…

Does God forgive divorce? ______! If we ____________ our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from _______ unrighteousness.

The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.”- John 4:19

Is Jesus a prophet? ______. He calls Himself a prophet in Mark 6:4.

“Our fathers worshiped on this mountain…”- John 4:20

She’s still focusing on her _____________. When traditions become the focus and take the ___________ off God, then they become a problem.

We please God when we are _______________ to what He wants us to do.

The ONLY right way is _________’s Way; period!

Jesus *said to her, “Believe Me, woman, that a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.”- John 4:21

It’s not about a place. It’s about a _________________!

Only the personal relationship you have by Believing in what Jesus did for you on the cross can _________ you!

“… salvation is from the Jews.”- John 4:22

He said salvation is ________ the Jews, not _______ the Jews!

What is salvation? You are saved from going to _________ because of your sin.

“… those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”- John 4:23-24

How do we worship in spirit and truth? Jesus said a ___________ would be sent.

John 14:16-17 NASB

16 I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, so that He may be with you forever;”

Is God only in church? _____. (Matthew 18:20)

Where is God? God is not confined to any one ___________! (Psalm 139:7-10)

____________: an organized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices.

Jesus is trying to break us ________ of systems and religious attitudes.

Jesus wants your ____________!

The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming…”- John 4:25

Who is the Messiah? The person promised in scripture to _________ the people.

Jesus said to her, “I am He, the One speaking to you.”- John 4:26

How awesome! She’s talking to God in human flesh, one-on-one.

“Why are You speaking with her?”- John 4:27

It was taboo for a Jewish man to talk to a ____________; even worse a Samaritan.

The disciples were ____________ to see this conversation happening.

“Come, see a Man …; this is not the Christ, is He?”- John 4:28-30

What happened to the woman? She immediately _________________!

She left her waterpot (that she thought she ______________) and went to share!

When Jesus fills your ___________, you’ll start to ________ ______ of the things of the world you thought you could not live without!

She took her personal _______________ and told it to the people.

Testimony: You tell people how Jesus _____________ you!

  1. What is our mission as Christians? Is every Christian a missionary?  Why or why not?

  2. Who are the Samaritans in scripture? What are some of the reasons that Jews do not associate with Samaritans?

  3. What is the context so far with the woman at the well?

  4. Read John 4:15-18, can you be continually living in sin and still be a Christian? Why or why not?  Is there any sin that God will not forgive?  If so, how would we know whether or not we’ve committed it?

  5. What are some scriptures you could refer to when looking for Biblical insight on marriage? What is the worldly insight on modern marriage?

  6. Read John 4:19-25, what is a prophet? Is Jesus a prophet?  Why or why not?

  7. What is meant by “salvation” in verse 22? What does it mean that “salvation is from the Jews”?

  8. What does it mean in verse 23 & 24 to worship in spirit and truth?

  9. Read John 4:26-30, what credentials do we need to share the gospel? What is a testimony? If willing to share your testimony of how Jesus came into your life, please share with the group.

  10. Ask God to bring someone in your life that you can tell your testimony to!
