1 Kings 1:28-35 ESV

WK 26 – “Solomon Anointed King”

Context:

David’s life is near the end and now his son ___________ will be anointed king.  David while an effective _________ on the battlefield  was not a great ___________ at home.

David’s military commander ____________ and also the priest __________ have defected to his son’s attempt to assume the throne.

1 Kings 1:5

5 Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king.”

And he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

The prophet ___________ and David’s wife _____________ go to David to remind him of the promise that _____________ was to be the next king.

1 Chronicles 28:5-6 ESV

5 And of all my sons (for the Lord has given me many sons) he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel. 6 He said to me, ‘It is Solomon your son who shall build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.

Volunteers needed!

Looking for volunteers to provide a 15-20lb frozen turkey,  looking to provide a total of 6 frozen turkeys and also a total of 50lbs of potatoes (could be 10 x 5 pound bags) for the Scarlet Hope Ministry to hand out to the ladies who have families that they have been working with.  These need to be at the church no later than the 16th for Paulette to deliver them to Scarlet Hope for distribution.  Sign up available at the church or speak with Paulette directly.

  6. Read 1 Kings 1:34-40, what is the difference between Judah and Israel in verse 35? What are some of the reasons you think for the people who have rebelled against King David?

  7. What is the significance of oil in scripture? Are there New Testament examples of anointing with oil?   What are some instances where oil is used in scripture?

  8. Read 1 Kings 17:12-14, how is it possible that the jug of oil not be empty? Is it possible as a Christian to either fill up or refill with the Holy Spirit?  Why or why not?

  9. Are all Christians “set apart”? Why or why not?  If they are, what are they set apart for?

  10. Please pray for a children’s ministry pastor that we will be considering for 2026. The ministry is our future and we need prayer that God will provide someone to continue the awesome work that has already been started.
