Believe! The Gospel of John
WK 31 – “God my way”
John 10:22-42 NASB
October 18, 2026
Justin Scarberry
.
Jesus was walking in the temple area, in the portico of Solomon. – John 10:22-23
- “Feast of the Dedication” – also known as Hanukkah
- “The portico of Solomon” – a porch area named after Solomon, who the Bible calls “the wisest man (1 Kings 10:23)” and who built the original temple.
- The portico was in the court of the gentiles. Jesus was no longer in the temple working with Jews, but He was in the outer court with the gentiles.
.
“How long will You keep us in suspense?” – John 10:24
- The religious leaders were stalking Jesus to find a way to condemn Him.
- The Bible had prophecies of what the Messiah would do, hundreds of years before Jesus was born, and He’s now there, God in human flesh, doing the things the Bible said He would do. But the religious experts didn’t see it!
.
“The works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me.” – John 10:25
- “The works” – the things we do for God that God wants us to do.
- The works testify that Jesus is the Messiah (1 of 4 testimonies – John 5:36).
.
“No one will snatch them out of My hand.” – John 10:26-28
- “My sheep listen to My voice” – Listen to His voice and filter it through the Word of God to ensure it is indeed from God (Isaiah 40:8, Romans 10:17).
- “They will never perish” – Believers are children of God; covered for eternity!
- “No one will snatch them out of My hand” – in His protective hands forever!
.
“No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” – John 10:29
- The most eternally secure relationship possible! You are in the Father’s hand, you are in Jesus’ hand, and the Spirit of God is living inside of you!
.
“I and the Father are one.” – John 10:30
- Jesus stirred up a major controversy with six words.
- Many religions acknowledge Jesus, but they don’t acknowledge Jesus as God.
.
The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. – John 10:31
- The Pharisees thought Jesus committed blasphemy; they wanted to kill Him!
.
“We are not stoning You for a good work, but for blasphemy” – John 10:32-33
- They recognized Him as a man but couldn’t handle Him making Himself God!
.
“Has it not been written in your Law: ‘I said, you are gods’? – John 10:34-36
- Jesus was referencing Psalm 82; He brought them to the Word of God again.
.
“Believe the works, so that you may know and understand” – John 10:37-38
- Jesus said “If you don’t believe me, fine. But these works are from the Father; you should be believing in them.”
.
Therefore they were seeking again to arrest Him – John 10:39
- The only sin that is not forgivable: If you die without asking Jesus into your life!
- They completely rejected Jesus in spite of all the evidence!
.
And many believed in Him there. – John 10:40-42
- Many came to believe once they were more alone with Him.
- John the Baptist pointed them to Jesus.
- We have the same responsibility; we should be pointing people to Jesus!
.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Filter EVERYTHING through the Word of God!
Nothing can replace the time you spend in the Word of God.
Once you belong to Jesus, you are in His protective hands FOREVER!
Our responsibility is to point people to Jesus!
Many may reject the offer initially but may accept it later when they are alone with Him!
