“The Truth Hurts!” John 9:28-41 NASB
Sometimes you can do everything right and still be attacked.
After a huge breakthrough in your life, you will often be attacked.
Satan will do everything in his power to derail your Christian walk.
.
They spoke abusively to him and said, “You are His disciple…”
– John 9:28-29
- They were making this healed man a villain. His crime: being healed by God!
- They had eyes to see but refused to see! – Ezekiel 12:2
- They accused him of being Jesus’ disciple (incorrect at this point).
.
“You do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes!”
– John 9:30-31
- This healed man would not be swayed by their abusive
- The healed man could see what the Pharisees couldn’t; God’s miracle!
.
“If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.”
– John 9:32-33
- When being attacked, it’s important to keep the conversation focused on facts!
- Facts:
- This man was born blind.
- It was unheard of that anyone was healed from blindness.
- “If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.” – John 15:5
- When you are angry, refrain from trading accusations.
- “He who restrains his lips is wise.” – Proverbs 10:19
- When you’re being attacked, it is a Spiritual attack; an attack from Satan.
- The enemy wants to get you out from behind your shield of faith and into the firing zone of his fiery darts of lies and accusations! Don’t take the bait!
- “Be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger.” – James 1:19-20

So they put him out.
– John 9:34
- “Put him out” – blocked from temple, from business, from life! Banished!
- Jesus was rejected and reviled by His own people! Jesus knows your pain!

He said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
– John 9:35
- Jesus went looking for him!
- He knew that he was healed by Jesus. He knew Jesus but didn’t yet believe!

“And who is He, Sir, that I may believe in Him?”
– John 9:36
- “Son of Man” – Jesus uses this to describe Himself over 80 times in the NT.
- Jesus uses this term to highlight his human
- Jesus is 100% God and 100% man.
- Jesus “emptied Himself” – the King of all Kings and creator of the universe humbled Himself to be a servant. (Philippians 2:5-7)
- “Son of Man” – Also referenced in the OT books of Ezekiel and Daniel
- Prophecy: “One like a son of man was coming,” – Daniel 7:13-14
.
And he said, “I believe, Lord.” And he worshiped Him.
– John 9:37-38
- The most important part of this man’s healing; to Believe!
- He started to worship; to pay homage to God, to revere God, to adore God, to submit to God. – Romans 12:1
- The Pharisees were forming their own religion. God would not accept worship that is made up by people. – Matthew 15:7-9

“I came into this world, so that those who do not see may see…”
– John 9:39
- We’ve been blinded by the god of this world, Satan. – 2 Corinthians 4:4
- God offers to remove the blindness and gives us a choice: to stay in our old life, blinded from the reality of our soul going to hell, or to choose eternal life and be reunited with God!

“Now that you maintain, ‘We see,’ your sin remains.”
– John 9:40-41
- Their pride and their desire to stay confined to their self-made laws had completely blinded them from the truth of their depravity.
- They saw Jesus and rejected Him, hardening their hearts against Him.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Does Jesus know when you are being treated unjustly? He does! (Psalm 34:18)
Can you think of anyone who was treated more unjustly than Jesus? (John 1:10-11)
Today, Jesus is in heaven at the right hand of the Father, but He is also with you!
When the world rejects you, when you really need God, He comes for you!
When someone is attacking you: #1 Pray for them. #2 Forgive them.
